Ms Iris Cheung


Ms Iris Cheung, Vice Principal, is an experienced English and English Literature teacher, university counsellor and school leader. With a strong sense of mission, Ms Cheung believes in the power of education: it transforms lives and makes the world a better place.


Ms Cheung received her Master’s Degree in Social Policy and Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and First Class Honours in BA (Hons) English Language Teaching from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Ms Cheung has taught in highly selective schools in Hong Kong, London, Shanghai and Shenzhen. Her roles included Head of International Pupils at Dulwich College, London, S6 English Coordinator at Diocesan Girls’ School, Hong Kong & USA Universities Coordinator at Harrow International School Hong Kong, and English Instructor at the MBA Centre of Shanghai University. Ms Cheung is experienced in writing school-based materials, and has a sound understanding of the requirements of different education systems and curricula. While developing students’ confidence and interests in learning, Ms Cheung has led students to great successes in external examinations.


In university counselling, with Ms Cheung’s extensive experience and students’ university successes, she has been invited to speak at multiple university conferences, including serving as a keynote speaker at the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) conference for university counsellors, and a panel speaker at a counsellors’ conference organised by The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is a board member of the CAIE University Counselling Community. Ms Cheung finds great joy and pride in witnessing students’ growth as they make their university plans. Over the years, Ms Cheung has celebrated many students’ efforts put into achieving their top university offers, including those from Oxbridge and Ivy League Universities.


In addition to her professional work, Ms Cheung is a passionate learner who enjoys ongoing professional development. In addition to attending university counselling courses, such as the Summer Institute for University Counsellors (organised by NYU and College Board), and the International Guidance Counsellor Conference (by Cambridge University), Ms Cheung has completed courses that will empower her in her role as a school leader. She has been awarded the Certificate in School Management and Leadership by Harvard University and Marketing Strategy Certificate by Cornell University. She is currently pursuing the United Kingdom National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership. Ms Cheung is also a WASC accreditor, working alongside other international school leaders in the network to evaluate international schools in the accreditation process to bring them forward.


Beyond education, Ms Cheung has been actively involved in civic and community work since young. She was appointed by the then Chief Executive to serve on the HKSAR government’s Commission on Youth (2004-2006), advising the government on matters pertaining to youth policies in Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shenzhen, she has maintained her active role as a volunteer. She brings to the classroom and her education values her care for the wider community and the less privileged groups.



Having taught internationally in highly selective schools, Ms Cheung brings to Minxin not only her experience in education leadership, well-being support, and university preparation successes, but also her vision to make the world a better place through the power of education.
